Has anyone ordered a new engine for a 2284 it has a Kohler CH22 it does not seem that Kohler makes that model anymore.

Here are a few for sale. You'll probably have to swap a few small parts.

The original engine was a Kohler: CH22-66510

Further research finds, the CH23S-76607 should work in this just fine

From SEW.......you can get a Kohler 24-522-130 Short Block for $1000.00

The SEW website says the 66510 is still available. They may not have their information up to date.

Just a heads up, some 2284's had the SAM ignition so you may need to do some minor wiring changes. As far as swapping parts from the old engine to the new engine it's also minor, stuff like the screen on the blower ETC. I did it on the 2284 that CADplans now owns. Try to get an engine with the small dipstick tube, I had to partially collapse the tube on this one so that the exhaust would clear it.

It was a CH22 that I bought from SEW. This is a pic of the tag.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
