What chains for lugged v tread tires?
I have 23x8.5 Carlisle tru powers. They did good in snow up until the last job when we had a re freeze and I couldn't get up the steep driveways. I ran back for my chains, but they're sized for 10.5 tires. They work but lots of slack. What's the best style of chain for lugged tires? I had v links on my Sears and they kill my sidewalk with scrape marks. So regular chain but what style?

id run standard 2 link chains. i use turf tires with chains because it distributes the weight out evenly on the chain, i have a set mounted on spare wheels that i switch out for winter. another reason i don't run chains on my good ags is even if the chains are tight they will rub the sidewalls of the tire and leave marks behind which looks like crap when the chains are off.

I looked into turfs but new wheels are $86 each, tires $90 each, and IH wheel weights are worth their pounds in gold.
I picked up a set of 2 link chains for 23x8.5 tires for $60 and plan to only use them if it's icy. I plowed through 3 storms with just the ags and did fine, it was only that one re-freeze that killed me and I had to resort to chains. Now I might still keep my eye on ebay for a used set of turfs/wheels for the future... The 10.5 chains were practically falling off without tensioners.

I didn't mean buy new wheels and tires. I have junk wheels with junk tires that I run my chains on, it don't have to be pretty as long as it moves snow. I'd get on c list and find a used set of tire already mounted on rims, just about any 5 lug garden tractor wheel will fit even if its for a JD or gravely.
