Recommendations for thrower

Wondering what blower/thrower you guys would recommend. I have a 127,782,1872. Really don't want to use the 127 because of the manual lift so it would go on either the 1872 or 782 and the blade would go on the other. Blowers/throwers aren't very popular in my area so I would probably have to travel a ways in order to find one.

QA 42's are popular and used parts are available.
they do the job without a lot of fuss.

Maybe depends on how much snow you want to throw? If you get decent amounts, I wonder if a two stage (like a 450?) on the 1872 and put a blade on one of the others

I have a 450 on an 1811, similar to your 782. It blows like crazy but could use a little bigger/heavier tractor for it. There are some recent pics from rdehli of an 1812 blowing with a 450 Thats worth checking out

There are a lot of qa42's in use as well. Some prefer a 2 stage but some like the single stage just fine.

I wonder what fastenal would charge for shipping if strapped to a pallet. That might get you more shopping options.

I like my QA 36 on my 680 (Little brother to 682 and littler brother to the 782). I have only had for this season and with this El Nino winter I haven't had a chance to really flex its muscles. It blew 4" of powder excellent yesterday, but the slush snow we got 3 weeks ago was not a lot of fun. I don't think there are any blowers that do good with slush... Since you have hydro and a heavier machine a 42" QA may serve you quite well.

I think you'd like a model 450 45" 2-stage blower on your 1872.

One thing to keep in mind is that snow throwers work much better on dry snow than they do in wet.

The guys up north get better snows for blowing than we do here. Not that we don't ever get good cold dry snows, they just aren't as common.

Location, location, location.

I went through one of my QA 42A's a couple of years ago and am going through another, as time allows.

They will get used, but when it isn't very cold they just don't work quite as well.

I live just a bit under the butt of the North Pole, so I deal with huge amount of snow most of the time (12" and up), last week storm bring 40 cm of snow (16") with accumulation up to 3' my QA42A can't deal with that. Here what I learn over the year :

1-For slushy snow a blade or a loader are what you need

2-For up to 8" of dry snow anything can be use.

3-For bigger accumulation you need a 2 stage or a loader.

I like to push snow each side of my drive way and use the 2 stage to clear it after, it work for me!

I use a 451 blower outside of Milwaukee, we get both dry and wet snow.
The key when blowing wet snow is to move as much snow as possible through the blower. The wetter the snow, the faster I move through the snow. I rarely clog the blower now. Also you can always use the blower as a plow.
