Default Help with 982 Serial Number

I am looking at a new to me 982 project but have some questions that decoding the serial number would really help with.I read it as 2050595U687465 ,also I have a pic of the rear and I know my previous 982 with the cast one had a dip stick in the top cover this one has none at all.I'm thinking the aluminum one should still have the dipstick towards the rear. Thanks for any help with this some day I'm going to have to get the right books to have these things handy.

Bob

The aluminum rear ends with S/N: 720,000> had the dip stick. Prior to that serial number, they had none.

That is not an aluminum rear in the pic. This is an aluminum rear (with SGT braces).

I thought some of the cast rears for the early 982s had a dipstick because the 3pt hitch kept you from accessing the fill plug on the back cover.

Thanks Sam,I thought it looked like the cast one.Another 982 I had previous to this one did have the dipstick as aagitch was kind enough to show a picture of.I guess I'm asking could it still be correct without the dipstick in the top cover as this one has no three point.

Thanks all, Bob

Hard to say but if the pump input shaft is a 5/8" 9 spline at least it's for a Super. If the input shaft is a 5/8" round with a 1/4" hole for a spirol pin it's a GT pump. Also the shaft coming out of the back of the pump for a Super should be splined for the rear PTO.

Adrian is right and I stand corrected. I looked in the TC-193 Parts Manual - Section H, and a "foot note" says, there was a IH-144777-C2 Cover with Gage.

I learned something today.

The input and output are both splined on this pump.

The dipstick on the earlier 982's has been discussed before, although it was quite a while back. They did have one, at least on mine a some other folks here. It is made very similar to the engine oil dipsticks on some IH tractors. It is a real pain to check the fluid level with one of them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
