Default 1872 governor problem
Hello everyone. Went to our local farm equipment auction today and picked up a 1872. (I got burned on a 2072 last year and swore I would never buy anything from there again, but there wasn't much going on today so I thought I'd go take a look.) Well, when I picked up tractor I found that when I get it started it runs fine at idle. When I idle it up the rpms go out of control. I am hoping someone will tell me it is not the governor gear. I just got it home so I haven't gone over the linkage or anything yet. Any advice will greatly be appreciated.

Pull the oil fill cap and look down in with a flashlight, if the governor is good you will be able to see the white plastic gear. If you can't see the gear I have some bad news.

If the gear is good it could just be a linkage or adjustment problem...

Maybe you will get lucky!! I got my fingers crossed for you!

Go to our tech section on page 3, 1/2 way down, if you have not already, and down load a free service manual. it will tell you how to set the gov. and answer a lot of other questions you might have.

Don't run it anymore. I'll bet it's the gear and there is pieces of it flying around inside the engine

Well I just looked down the oil fill hole and I can see the plastic gear. I can't tell if the weights are on it. I guess that is a good sign. I will look in the manual and see if it set correctly. Thanks. Anymore advice would be appreciated.
