Default New to me 1782, issues and questions

Just picked up a 1782 Sunday afternoon with 530hr that look like sat out half its life but still in decent shape. I'm new to messing with the super garden tractors but worked with old gear drives a lot just wanted something bit nicer to mow the yard. It got a issue that don't make sense to me. When you go to start it you have to hold the pto switch in the on position before it will crank...wiring issue? Are they suppose to have a manual or electric fuel shut off? Mine is manual but it looks rigged up to me. Also the top ears of the exhaust manifold are all busted. And I wondered if its a common problem with them from the muffler hanging off of it

Congrats on the one eyed Super smoker! Yeah, it sounds like you have some wiring issues. You need to get ahold of wiring diagrams and get started chasing the demons. You can try the sponsors at the top of the page for exhaust parts. Many things related to the engine are still available new through Kubota.

You could have (A) a bad PTO switch, or (B) Improper PTO Switch, or (C) Improperly wired.

Electric shut off is NLA, had the same issue with a 1782 I owned. Here are a couple threads that may help.

Thanks for the help. Got the fluids changed. Engine oil looked like it never been changed and the hydraulic oil looked like milk. Another change in both and they should be OK. I mowed the yard and boy do the 60in decks spin fast.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
