Got my first Cub. My mom was cleaning up a shed and decided she wanted to scrap the old girl. It's a '67 102 that my brother had gotten maybe 20+years back and had abandoned and forgotten.
It's mine now. Did the usual stuff that's required when an engine won't start. Remove plug and put some oil down the top hole to make sure of no dry rubs from piston rings. New carb, points/condenser, new plug, fuel lines/filter, oil drain and fresh oil, fresh gas and a good battery borrowed from another rider I have. Turned key and 2 seconds later the old girl was running. Did some minor adjustments on new carb. The thumper is alive. Will need to do a valve adjustment, but for now I'm pleased. The pics still show her still jacked up in front awaiting new tires/wheels which have now been installed and last week took her for a spin around the yard after all this time in a shed. It does have a deck, but I have 2 other riders that do the mowing. I'll clean up the deck and keep aside for now. |

Nice Cub! Welcome to OCC! Be very careful of that scissor jack under the front end, they have a nasty habit of tipping over. Keep us posted on your project. We like pictures and updates!

Great story. Love to hear about the ones that sat for so long and fire right up after a little tinkering. Looks good, correct 102 seat too, that should clean up nice.

Thanks for the welcome.
Bocephus, the best I can decipher from the tag is: Farm Implements, Inc. 37?? Montgomery Rd Cleveland(?), Ohio Can't make out the right side other than knowing something is there. I tried to search the business, but nothing comes up in name/change or an address. I wanted to take the info to a graphix shop and have a new tag made up. So, if anybody recognizes the business name or has any info of the old business and correct address/city I would appreciate a message. TIA |

Rusty Yellow, Hello, and welcome! OCC is a pretty good place to share these awesome garden tractors!
My 125 I recently purchased, came from an IH dealer in my home city of Cleveland, as well! So what your dealer decal is to me is quite interesting! Love the series your model 102 is! Great tractor! I briefly had a 102 myself! Take care, keep us posted on your 102!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
