Default Tire chain opinions.

My only set of chains just went out to my mother in law's on the 1050 so I need to order a new set for my 1211, I've always ran 2 link vbar chains and I've never had an issue with traction. While looking on the site I always buy chains from I noticed they also have diamond chains in vbar as well as duo chains in vbar, I'm leaning towards the diamond chains but wanted to hear some opinions before I pulled the trigger. Here's a link so you can take a look.

Wish they had this style back when I bought my chains for my BX with the lug tires, V Duo Style Tire Chains.

What are you using for tires? If your running turfs I'd go for the regular V bar set.

Turf tires. I plow two of my neighbors driveways so I have to run on the road for a 1/4 mile or so, I was thinking the diamonds or the duo's would be a smoother ride.

If I had turf tires without asphalt driveway I would be interested the studded diamond or the V-bar duo. Those studded diamonds are midevil looking!

Pricey too !!

Tim,
I have like 12 sets of chains of or such sorts here, but you are there and you were here.It is what it is.

Those v bars will work well on the 268.

I would stick with the 2 link chains.Mine are on their 5th season.

I won't buy used chains, last thing I want to be doing out in the cold is messing with broken chains. The set on the 1050 are 6yrs old and they still look new and I've done alot of plowing with them, I'm not to concerned about the price since there quality chains that will last. I got a set of Carlisle xtrac tires for the 268, they were $21 each.

there you go!!! 21$??!!!!.... i cant remember if one rides better than the other or not, but ill tell you now you better air those tires down to about 2-5psi because those chains do bounce...the diamond and duo style and thats on a full size tractor...will not stop forward momentum though...just keep going and going...never even seen vbar ones..cool link

i say get some cheap lug tires and get the studded diamond ones...look the best all around, and wont ever get stuck!!

I am kind of confused if you want these on a riding cub 1211 or a cub snowblower 268. If it is for your 268, then you really don't need chains since the rear tires have enough weight on them already. I have had my 268 for many years with snow over the top of the auger housing and never had any issues. For your 1211, if you have always used the V-bar and had success, then continue using them unless you just want change, but for a higher price! Never change a winning strategy.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
