It appears to have been run with too little oil!

Made $1900 on the last one I bought with scrap bottom end. The guy didn’t tell me it had blown up but for what I paid I didn’t bother calling him back up. haha Fortunately the block wasn’t damaged and I was able to find a used crank on fleabay, 2 new rods and the gaskets I needed for 125. Used crank was in good shape I polished the journals, quick hone job and back together it went.
This one was sold to me with the blown motor. Ive yet to find anything wrong with this block either so maybe I can find another good used crank.
I noticed after I got the first 2544 back together that the oil drain was leaking pretty bad after I added the oil. I never took it loose so im assuming it originally leaked down to the point causing the bottom end to seize. The wire for the low oil sensor was also disconnected. Those plastic drains are a recipe for disaster. ended up using a standard pipe plug

oddly enuf the cylinders in this engine and the other one were perfectly fine. no scoring at all. both machines 3-400hr range

Command cylinder bores are very durable. Kohler uses a nickel silicone process for incredible durability.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
