Idiots hauling stuff.

The tractor we just finished up is leaving today, the guy hauling it works for a company hired by the owner to deliver it to Texas. The box trailer he's using only has a handful of tire down points and he's only strapping this tractor down with one strap up over the front wheel, he also has an SUV in the trailer and it's not strapped down at all. He put the SUV in first with the tractor behind it and now the trailer has WAY TO MUCH tongue weight, the Dodge he's pulling it with is squatted down like it's got 5 ton of rock in the bed, the front of the trailer is about 8" off the ground but the back is about 16" off the ground. The car will be getting dropped off before the tractor so this idiot will have to unload the tractor to get it out, I had to show him how to work the tractor since he's never driven one before, he's probably about 25 and must be Mexican because I can hardly understand a word he says. I fear this may be the last time we see this tractor is this condition, I will honestly be amazed if it doesn't get smashed up on the long ride to Texas.

Wow! That is a lot of weight with both of them in the trailer. I hauled my dad's A/C D17 back from PA and I'm thinking my GVW was over the limit and I used my 1 ton dually. Did you take lots of pictures of it loaded and in good condition?

DOT loves to stop pickups pulling box trailers that look to be overloaded. It will surprise me if he makes it a hundred miles.

Yeah, there is a lot of online discussion about the "correct" way to load trailers. I have an opinion, and so does everyone else....I've learned the best option is to just

FYI

Who was the carrier?
What is their DOT#
Did you have a legal bill of lading which transfers temporary total responsibility to the carrier?
Is the carriers truck info on the BOL?
Did you have a legal bill of sale as well?

All this will be important if, heaven forbid, IF something happens that will possibly involve kickback to you, the shipper.
Good deal you took pic's, you may need them.
Personally, I would never have let him leave the place until it was properly secured to your liking.

I used to see this kind of crap all the time when I was on the road. There is NO EXCUSE for improper load securement whatsoever.

The last Chapter 5, Iowa IH collectors club meeting, we had an Iowa DOT officer put on a seminar detailing tie down procedures and licensing requirements to haul tractors of all sizes.
