New regulator, new S/G, new wire and still wont charge. The A/G charges when field wire is grounded like the test shows. When you turn the key off the S/G keeps turning the motor over. Wired the way the service manual says. What NEXT?

Its a cub cadet 129. Ive tried every thing and I did replace with the right 3 wire regulator. Could it be the points in the regulator are out of adjustment. If so, what is the gap suposed to be.

What do the terminals on the VR say?
If you have anything hooked up the the L term it will do that. Use just the B,G, and F terms.

Regulator has no L terminal. It has a bat, gen, F, and a ground comming out of the back. It was a direct replacement for this model tractor.

First is a NEW 4 wire VR Look closely at the terms. The one on the back is marked G.
Second is my old VR the term on the back is the ground, the new ones don't have a Grd term. If you wire the VR like the original, with the G wire attached to the L term, the SG will continue to run. DO NOT attach anything to the L term. The last is also a 4 wire VR the term on the bottom is the G term. The terms are marked L=Load, A=Armature, B=Battery, F=Field Use only the A, F and G terms. I went through this just a few months ago.

Neither the 3 or 4 terminal V/R had a Ground terminal. The grounding is done through the Mounting Feet.
The G terminal is for "Generator"

Quote:
The old VR was a piece of rust. Wide Frame Wiring Dia, it does show a Grd term, but that VR is NLA, just make sure you match the wires to the correct term.

It is wired as in the service manual. The terminal coming out of the back says grnd. and is hooked to the ground strap that grounds threw the body of tractor. I ran New wires the way the diagram showed. I had someone look at it and I think he adjusted the points gap. Now it doesnt stick but it only puts out 12.5 volts wich is the same reading as the battery by its self.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
