Has anyone come up with a clean way of filling a hydro rear axle that fills thru the dipstick tube? If you fill too quickly it traps the displaced air until it burps blowing oil all over. Last one I did, I used an old squeeze bottle from a liter of 90W gear oil. I was able to force Hytrans in and then allow the air to escape back into the bottle, but it still created a big mess. I'd be interested in hearing how others do this.

Some guys run a small rubber line (maybe 2 cycle fuel line or something similar--as big as you can) through the funnel into the rear maybe a couple inches deep--helps if it was coiled up so it will try to curl up and out of the way of the stream of oil. This does a good job of letting air out. Also seen a pipe union (can't think of the correct term) welded to the rear cover plate kind of high up. This is the kind of "improvement" folks do when they have the back cover off for work or to completely clean out the inside of the rear housing.

The vent trick works very well! I have also done it up high like john said in the rear cover on the cast rears. That works too!

Removing the one of the bolts that hold the trans to the frame works also.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. For now taking the bolt out sounds like the best bet. I plan to do a refresh on the entire tractor at some point later this year and will drill and tap for a vent when I have the axle out.

When I put fluid in my 1863 earlier this week I took some 3/16 id vinyl tubing, drilled 2 holes in the lid that fit the tubing and set the 2 gallon jug on the fender. The tube on the left is long enough to go from the bottom of the jug to the dipstick tube. The tube on the right is only about 5 inches long, it vents the jug and I blew in it to get the fluid started siphoning. The holes are sized to make the tubing fit tight. It took most of the day for it to siphon into the trans but I had other stuff to do anyway. There was about an inch left in the bottom of the jug because the tubing curled up some. I put it in with a small funnel but at least I didn't have to do the whole jug that way. I threw the jug away or I would set it up and make a better picture.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
