Default 682 Engine Swap Spacer Question

Hey guys, I am in the middle of, or I should say closer to the end of this 682 engine swap. Went from the KT 17 to the CH20 (thanks to Olds, who did an outstanding job at crating and sending this motor). My question is about the spacers between the engine and the engine plate. When I use the spacers from the KT, I don't like the drive shaft angle. Without the spacers it pretty close to a level drive shaft, but even without the spacers, its a hair high. Question is, are the spacers there for driveshaft alignment, or does the motor have to sit on them for some reason? I am using a engine plate from an 1864 because it had holes drilled that put the motor far enough forward so the pto lined up better with the mule drive. The height seems the same even with the original plate. I currently have it mounted with no spacers and it seems to be fine like that, it seemed that the feet of the motor sat flush without the rest of the motor bottom touching the plate. Other than a challenging oil change, will it hurt the motor to sit flush on the plate? On the drive shaft mod, im currently working a 2000 series shaft mod that should be more forgiving on the driveshaft angle. Thanks for any advice. TB

You can buy the spacers for an 1864 part # 950-3009 Price $6.59 ea.

Thanks Sam, I'm sure I can buy those. But the question is, are they for proper driveshaft alignment? Like I was saying, without any spacers its already a hair too high, but not too bad. With any spacer at all, the drive shaft angle just gets higher (higher in the front). Is it ok to leave out the spacers? Thanks, TB

I don't have the answer to your question. All I can say is that the shaft on my 1864 looks pretty well aligned with the spacers.

Both tractors use the same height for the spacer. 0.469in. The newer ones are 1in diameter the old ones are 5/8in.

I would use spacers. I made my own out of 3/8 cause I thought the .4xx ones
were a little high.
I took a KT out and put in a Ch20 in a 782.

Thanks Terry. Yes the original spacers are too high for my liking as well. The fact that the 682 did not come with a CH series makes the dimensions different. The crank center is taller with the CH20 as it it was with the KT17. With the 3/8 spacers, was your shaft straight? Mine is still a little high even with no spacers. I'm trying to ask if NO spacers will hurt the motor. Thanks, TB

No problem if you mount it without spacers.

I would think setting the 2 engines crank to crank or measuring crankshaft
center line to mounting surface and comparing, would answer the question if spacers are needed and how much, or none @ all.
Or would that be too easy?

Hi TB, Stand back from the side of your tractor and look. With a level frame and spacers under motor you should notice the motor tips back.( high in front,low in back)May help driveshaft alignment. I think the spacers are for air flow. I've done this project a couple times myself. Mike
