Default Axle pin
Working on the Cadet 70 today, changing the oil and trying to get the timing set properly. Reached under the engine to put the oil plug back in and felt something that didn't seem quite right, so got down and took a closer look. The front axle pin has been replaced at some point in time by what appears to be a hitch pin. It seems to be working fine, so probably going to leave it like that for now. It is held in place by a cotter pin where the coil pin should be. Just figured I would share a previous owners mod that I thought was interesting .

Looks good to me and you can even use it to hook a chain to in a pinch.

Yeah.... except the handle is under the engine. That and the fact that the handle pulls off easily.....

I guess it works.

That's a new one for me. Love it. I've seen a lot of wierd stuff on mine including 1/4 inch plate full fenders and running boards on an original of mine and mentioned this before, I had a random horse shoe welded to the frame of my 73 when I got it that was a step.........for some reason.

Still thinking there should be a dedicated thread/sticky for these kind of things, always a learning experience about some of the shady things people do to them, and then again, sometimes incentive at the same time.

Yes, but you'd be surprised what some people will try. Believe it or not, I've seen guys try to pull one of those pins out with a chain attached to it and hooking to the tractor's 3pt. Also had a guy who worked for me attempt to lift something by using a hitch pin. Thought he could lift it by that handle. Thankfully, he asked before he tried.
