The breather has a drain hole that could be plugged. I would disassemble the breather and clean it good, make sure to buy new gaskets for it or it will leak.

You can go here to look up the parts #s.
Cub Cadet 128 Engine parts - partstree.com Parts # 32, 36 in the diagram are the two gaskets. Possibly 40 and 41 if they are degraded or missing. The filter (41) breaks down over time or gets full of dirt. The seal (part 41) is a neoprene sleeve that fits over the stud and holds the reed in place. That is sometimes compressed/deformed, if the cover is put on too tightly. Make sure you assemble with part 38 positioned so the very small drain hole is on the bottom, which allows the oil collected by the filter, to drain back into the engine. Sometimes that drain is plugged. Before assembling, make sure the cover and plate surfaces are flat, to ensure you get a good seal. Make sure the breather reed is positioned over the holes so that they close properly. Sometimes the cover(part # 35) is caved in by previous owners over tightening the nut, trying to seal it. You may need to straighten that out. Cub Cadet 128 breather_1.jpg

Even better, everything needed from a forum member.
Wish I had seen that a few weeks ago. Just ordered a set from the dealer, for more money.

One of the tractor pulling websites says that "A 1/2" length of 1/4" i.d. soft heat-resistant rubber vacuum hose or reinforced rubber fuel hose will serve the same purpose.", but I have not tried it, so I have no way to confirm it. Up to you if that is the way you want to go.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
