Default Hydrostatic Control and Dash Removal on 1450

How do you remove the hydrostatic control on a Cub Cadet 1450?? Does the knob thread off or is it more involved? I want to remove the dash to try and restore the tin lettering cover and paint the fiberglass dash cap

Knob screws off and the steering wheel is on a tapered splined shaft.

Dang it. Tried turning it and wouldn't budge. It looked like it was square like the shaft so I assumed it didn't screw off. That is all I like getting the dash off.

Another question........do any of you know a good way to restore the tin panel with the lettering on it? I found a NOS one but I don't want to spend over $100 on that piece. I didn't know if any of you have dressed these up or restored that part before.

That is pretty good on that price.
You can get the repro decal and lay it over the old tin as an alternative.

For my 149, I taped off the unpainted parts, and sprayed the rest with black paint. Then I cut the lettering out of a decal, and put it on the tin. It takes a lot of patience, but I think it's worth it.

Or, as Lew suggested, you can just get a decal, but they aren't textured like the original tin.

Ohhhh.....that just might work! Only thing is you’d have to buy the decal and butcher it up. Are the decals reasonable and of good quality to actually stay stuck to that piece of tin?
