Default 1450 Parts Tractor

Considering a 1450 parts tractor for my 149...

Want to confirm -- the hydrostatic transmission is the same.

The tire sizes should be close or the same?

The 14hp engine from the 1450 will have the magneto behind the flywheel but will the engine still fit in/on the 149 and can I still use the S/G from the 149?

Will a 3pt hitch from the 1450 fit on my 149?

Thanks!

Wrong. The 1450 will have the Solid State Charge system vs the S/G.

Yes
A 149 will have external brakes, some later 1450's have internal so you will need to address the linkage issue.

Right but...

Will the eng from the 1450 fit on the 149? I realize the iso mounts would be different but do the mount holes line up?

Can you remove the starter from the 1450 eng and use the S/G setup on the 149 if you swap engines?

Only if there are mounting holes in the block to mount the S/G.

Personally, I would adapt the 149 to the Solid State Charging system.

Why not fix up the 1450 also?

Too many projects as it is...
After discovering the cost of new tires a 1450 with good looking tires and a bad engine seemed like it might be a good source of spares...

The 149 being my first tractor/riding mower I've now discovered I'd like a bigger deck too -- the whole idea was to take a lot less time mowing the yard...

Thanks for pointing out the differences. The 1450 "smokes bad" so it sounds like the eng's rebuildable -- something I'd do over the winter months for "fun..."

I'm sure the solid state charging is better but --
My beloved UH-1H (Huey) also used a starter/generator (mounted on the transmission) not many vehicles do -- the simplicity still charms me...

Really appreciating the wealth of knowledge about these things here!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
