For about 2 weeks I been trying to figure out what leaking on my transmission on my tractor after unclean it up and refilled the trans with new fuild and new brake push rod o ring. My tractor is a 124. I thought it was coming from the coupler where the driveshaft connects but that not it after I lift up my seat and take a peek in the gear shifter area. It seem to be leaking out of that plug? What is it?

Looks like where the breather is on a GD.
Supposed to be a sintered brass insert in there. Has someone plugged it with something?? Did you overfill the transmission by any chance?? |

Clean the area real well with brake cleaner and the get some baby powder.
Wait a few minutes after cleaning and then fuff it on the area around the suspected area. From your picture it looks like the gs cover is leaking...

What is gs? Why would it leak when the oil level is way below the gear shifter area.

GS gear shift.
Because it travels up from the bottom thru the action of the gears turning, like those thingies they have at the auto parts store for Lucas oil.... Use the baby powder trick and any left over put on you bumm....

Not sure if it leaked before. It was covered in grime, grease before by the previous owner and I pressure washed it. I use hytran oil through the fill hole on the back plate.

Now that I look at it more, that is the back side of the gear reduction housing, that is the GRD shaft. I believe that there is suppose to be a welch plug covering it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
