I have an issue with the hydro fan breaking the blades off on my tractor. I bought a new fan about a year ago after the original broke all the blades off. After using it only a few times this summer it broke again. I ordered a new one and plowed a little snow and then found two blades already broke off. It only has a little clearance when it turns between the blade tips and the hydro filter. Is that normal? It doesn’t appear to have any movement in the rear end or motor that would cause the drive shaft to shift. I was thinking about shaving a little off the tips of the fan blades on the new one for more clearance but at this point it would only help on the remaining blades. Any ideas of what is going on? Thanks

If your driveshaft couplers are worn that might be something to consider. I've had the bolt holes get egged out before. You could remove the driveshaft cover disconnect your plug wires and bump the engine over a few times to see or hear if anything is hitting. Just make sure you are safe when doing this.

Update on my original post. When I replaced the first fan blade I did replace one of the rubber couplings. Guess I should start by replacing the other.

I had the same issue on mine. I replaced the worn Flex Discs, and the Pilot Bushings in both Drive Couplers. Smoothed things right out.

if you have an aluminum rear end in the late (CCC) produced 782 cub, check to see if the front mounting brackets are broken as well as if the rear mount bolts on the axle are still in there and tight.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
