Default New cub with extras

Brought this 169 home last week, it came with a 50" deck, 42"thrower, and a cozy cab. The cab is the main thing I wanted but they wanted to sell everything together. Tractor has wheel weights, lights, spring assist, arm strong lift but has the ported pump. I tried to buy these a year ago but they were not sure if they wanted to sell and then hit me with a high price. Gave them my buisness card and then got the call 2 weeks ago, made a deal and went and got them.

Tractor was kind of a basket case, they had the front pto bearing go out and the moron they had fix it torched it off cause he didn't know about removing the allen screws. Then it sat outside, air cleaner off, very low on oil, many bolts loose or missing, engine not even bolted in, I figured worst case I would part it out to get my money back. Had time tonight to mess with it. Pulled engine, adjusted valves, cleaned carb, set timing, starter/generator checked out, dropped it back in, put good battery in, checked for spark, bolted fuel tank back on, a little fuel and fired right off, runs smooth and no smoke. They had told me that it had less than 50 hours on overhaul but had no idea what their mechanic did to it, supposedly not same guy that torched the pto. Spirol pin in driveshaft missing so I'll see if I can get it to move tomorrow. It has the side shield with hour meter on the left side but Its missing that shield on the right side, missing the front grille, missing the front heat shield on engine, and of course the front pto. Any body got any of these extra parts, let me know. Will probably try and find a hydraulic lift to put on it as well.

Deck is in fair shape, everything spins freely, one deck wheel missing.

Thrower is in fair shape, only missing the gear to turn the spout, but I got a spare one for it. This makes 6 throwers now for me, and i only use the same one each winter.

Cab, was actually shocked when I found out it was a cozy cab. Missing the wiper arm and front glass is cracked but rest is good. They had doors off and sat in the dirt for a while, got some surface rust there but they are solid yet.

I'll probably throw the deck on for summer but then put cab back on and make it my dedicated snow thrower rig.

Nice! You need a 10hp to complete the 1X9 lineup?

Thanks! I got it to move today, hydro works good. After about 4-5 minutes of running she started to labor and that's when I noticed excess exhaust from breather and the oil dipstick about ready to blow off. Shut it down and the engine locked up. After it cooled down it turns over again but didn't try starting it. Guessing rod seized or what, maybe rings beings it has lots of blow by. It really doesn't surprise me with the way this tractor had been monkeyed with. I'll pull the motor when I have time and tear it all down. Might pull head tonight and see what piston looks like, curious if this had been rebuilt or someone just slapped new rings in. Either way I'm guessing it had been run low on oil. Good thing is I really didn't allow much if any for the tractor when I made the deal, been bit like this before. Clint.

You did well for the goodies you got. Too bad about the motor.

Well it was bugging me what happened to this engine, since I couldn't sleep I got up super early and tore the engine down. Removal of head showed me a replacement standard bore piston. Bore was not cross hatched and was not wearing evenly.. Removal of pan showed aluminum pieces in bottom. Then looking up in there I knew what was wrong, oil hole in cap was on wrong side. Rod is all scarred up and crank has some scarring as well. Figured I'd drop it off at machine shop and get going on it. I first went to my stash of parts and pulled out a crank I had ground 10 under and a set of valves, both were out of a 1450 that had an hour of run time on the clock, that's a whole other story. He said he'd check the valves and guides, and polish the k321 crank, and clean up the bore a little to see what piston we need to order. A few pics

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
