I, like bsyphrit, am working on a 125. I finally separated the transmission from the frame rails...which I gotta tell you guys is not easy on these narrow frames. The trunnion needs repaired. Here's the question, do all you guys that weld these take the trunnion off the hydro unit to weld it? I don't want to open the unit if I don't have to.

i wrapped a rag around it all down to the pump part then soaked it with water and filled with coathanger and oxy-acetelne weld, grind and filed to size.
i even turned axle on side to make for easier filling |

I pressure wash the whole thing, then depending on how much welding needs to be done, cover the seal and shaft with a wet rag, mig the worn places, knock off the high spots with a grinder, then file the hole out square. Then check the springs and caps for fit.

Thanks, I'm ready to finish the engine this week, I wasn't ready to crack this case then reseal it this week. Do you always replace the springs regardless of their condition because mine look pretty good or would I be really surprised if I saw new ones?

Normally I do, they are pretty cheap (inexpensive) it's the caps that are a little spendy. I don't mind pulling a transaxle out to do the work, but I really don't want to do it again just because I am/was too cheap to spend $6.00 on springs.
