Default 91 No Ethanol

Would the 91 be too high of an octane for my 1977 1450? Or would you run 87 with an additive to negate the ethanol? I thought I was doing my boat a favor by using the 91 until the mechanic informed me otherwise.

Higher octane on low compression motors is not economically advantageous,
and at times decreases power, but it is negligible from the operators seat.
Higher octane burns slower.
I'm not a fan of today's 10% ethanol, but have used it with mostly no problems.
What I do encounter are problems with corrosion in fuel systems like carb bowls/jets emulsion tubes where equipment sets idle for more than a couple of years.

We are lucky here in Iowa as most of the Casey's stores have non ethanol gas at the pumps
I use it all the time and add 1 oz MMO per gallon.
No fuel issues here.

In these parts it is not worth the extra $1.25 a gallon for non alky gas
and having it be a year old or more.

The only opinion I have on using E 10, 87, 89 octane gasoline for the last umpteen years is, if you store the stuff in sealed containers, don't let it sit in an unused gas engine for 3-4 years, you'll have no problem with it.

If you choose to do otherwise, you can have problems with moisture.

Water in gasoline used to be a problem before E 10. Corrosion, dried gas varnish and all that stuff is nothing new.

Don't blame it on E 10.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
