I'm reading where some folks are saying it is not possible to have my CC 782 return to neutral from both forward and reverse.
While I was doing Trunion repair I figured I'd adjust for neutral. Using the "Tap-Tap-Tap" method I got forward to return to neutral perfectly. But from reverse the shift lever doesn't return to the neutral slot and the tractor will creep[ backwards. Is there some other adjustment I'm missing here? Or are "they" right about be happy with one direction returning to neutral. |

Excess play in your linkages can cause this. I just went through this about two weeks ago with mine.

Ideally you have a return-to -neutral after both directions of travel and usually the brake pedal is a more accurate return.
40 + years of wear cause the hand control to be not as accurate. so set it close as possible and learn to live with it as it goes with all things that ain't like they used to be. -- I ain't as good as I was once, but good once as I always was

Watching the system work, I can see where the parts intercept each other to go from FORWARD to NEUTRAL when brake is depressed....But when going from reverse when brake is depressed, it appears the linkage is not moving the pieces it needs to.
There is a whole bunch of moving parts going on when that brake peddle is depressed.....Quite Rub Goldberg if I might say so. More pondering with beer in hand while the parts go through their motions is needed...... |

I can assure you when new from factory, It didn't creep. So when this is happening, Is it with engine idling? or full throttle? When you go from reverse to neutral with brake, does the brake hold your from creeping? or does it only start to creep once you lift your foot up? Can you find a position in hand lever that does not creep? not necessarily at the specific "neutral" spot?

I can hear hydraulic pump working when brake is depressed Can you find a position in hand lever that does not creep? not necessarily at the specific "neutral" spot? Yes, with the lever in the neutral position |

Is the linkage gummed up? Has everything been cleaned and re lubed? I use white lithium on mine once or twice a season

Everything was disassembled, removed all cam plates, c-rings, etc and were put in parts washer. Any burrs removed. I'm not seeing and obvious wear, but as we know, very little movement of these parts has a big affect on the hydro function.
I used white lithium grease on everything. |
