Default Cub Cadet 104 issues

hi, new to the forum.

ive recent acquired a cub cadet 104. they guy was building it for pulling but im needing it to mow. ive replaced the entire electrical system, but today when i went to start it for the first time, the moment i connected the battery the starter started spinning without the key in it. i had a brand new harness but with the starter constantly spinning, the harness fried. on a positive note the tractor did run lol

can someone help me out? could i possibly get photos of the magnetic switch and how the battery is cabled? i think thats my issue

thanks

You replaced the entire electrical system. Begs to ask two questions:
1. Where did you get the wiring harness?
2. What key switch did you use? They are not all created "electrically" equal.

The last tractor I bought from a "wanna be puller" was totally screwed up as well.

Voltage regulator wired correctly??

Why on earth did you let it crank that long to begin with when you could tell something was amiss?

And did you pay attention to the LABELED terminals on the voltage regulator, not where they are located?
Also the Regulator has to be grounded.
Your not the first and won't be the last that has happened to.
Also are you sure you have the correct IGN switch?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/MAIN-AND-LI...QAAOSwvihY9CA8

this is the wire harness i got, attached with the wiring diagram

the voltage reg is wired as
L going to start/gen
F going to the F on starter/gen
Bat going to charge indicator which is tied to the battery and ignition

as for key switch, he said it was "new", i tested it with my multimeter and it seemed to be fine and wired correctly

i didnt leave it connected constantly, i new it was starting when connected to battery, i just kept taping the cable to the battery to keep the engine running, i wasnt paying attention to the wires and fried the battery cable going to the voltage reg

The "L" is NOT used on the 104 tractor. It was only used on the Original and the 70/100 series.

Go to the Technical Library Section on page #5, and download the correct diagram for your 104.

NO, not necessarily. Do NOT use the L terminal. Insulate and isolate.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
