Cub Cadet 108
Hey everyone,
I am new to this forum, I have been given an old International Cub Cadet 108. It's a little rough, but I think she can be brought back to life. I am looking for any suggestions for this refurb, but right now I either need a fuel tank or a way to clean the inside of the one I have and coat it.

Welcome to OCC!
If the tank is rusty or has "varnish" type deposits, Lacquer thinner dissolves it along with a hand full of small nuts thrown in or small rocks from the driveway. Then shake it vigorously till you get tired, or it is clean. I will not, apply a "coating" if it leaks, I solder it, if rusty, leave it alone after it is cleaned thoroughly. if it is kept with fuel in it, it will not rust. But that is my experiences, your results may vary.

Another idea...
I've also had pretty good luck with a product I get from the auto parts store that is a gas tank tank repair product that requires you to knead a chunk of product together for quite awhile and then squash it around and into a small leak. That works pretty well if it is a small leak like a hole in the tank or around a fitting if the area around the leak is scuffed up pretty good first, allowing the product to adhere and then cure for a day or two before filling with gas. I fixed the leak(s) in the tank off my 108 using a Weller soldering gun, a good flux core solder and extra flux paste. Yea, I know the soldering is ugly to say the least. It was my first time attempting this and I didn't realize that the gun has a 2 minute duty cycle on and then 4 minutes off. That complicated things. Regardless, the point I'm trying to make is that you may find more than one leak once you get into it. I had to go over my tank 4 times before I got them all.

I hope the solder holds up for you. Be forewarned however, the vibrations these tractors produce will likely end up cracking the repairs you have made. I would suggest looking for a good tank while enjoying your tractor for the time being.
