Default 1200 Clutch Issues

Hello,
I just bought a Cub 1200 yesterday. It was supposed to be in perfect shape, but it’s not. It needs a new starter Solenoid and the carb needs cleaned or rebuilt. I drove it to my garage in 2nd I didn’t notice any real issues. Later I went to put it in the shed and it would hardly move in 3rd finally it took off. The guy I bought it from said it had a new clutch. I’ve tried to get a hold of him to come and get it and give me a refund. He will not respond back!

I tried to adjust it, but the adjustment nut is backed out all the way. I sent a video and pictures to Cub specialties. He informed me I need a new driveshaft and throw out bearing. I’m probably going to also replace the disk, pressure plates and teaser spring. I assume I will have to take the Engine out? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated! That spring looks intimidating!

Thanks
Mark

That looks like a new clutch to me, When you say adjusting nut do you mean the one one with the spring that connects to the pedal?
The clutch will not work properly if the engine mounts are bad. Have they been replaced?
You can go to the tech section and download the service manual and this will help you out.

I have no clue if the have been replaced. It also throws sparks. I’m just going to replace everything including the engine mounts.

It does look like a new clutch. The pin holes in the plate are still circles and aren't worn to an oval shape. I agree with checking the engine mounts because if they are bad, the alignment of the whole drive line gets messed up.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
