Bought a Cub Cadet 70 today
I've been looking for a 70 for a while - found one on CL this week (pretty good price) and picked it up today - the PO had a roll-over on it a year ago and hasn't touched it since (broke his leg x3 and his hip - no wonder he wanted to sell it!). It looks pretty good - has it's share of rigged stuff on it, which will go away as I get into it. Not sure of it's year yet (SN is painted over) or the engine - the Kohler spec sheet is unreadable so far. Here's a pic of the tractor

I'm thinking about using a weak acid on it to "raise" the numbers, but have read that there is a second place to look on the gear reduction housing. Only problem is I don't know where that place is! I'm not sure but is there a tag on the left side of the rear next to the cover? Nice looking machine too.
What part of SC are you from? Vince O has a plow day over near Greenville once or twice a year.

Hmmmm. Interesting. Based on what I'm learning here on old posts, looks more and more like my 70 is, in fact, a 100. It has the "remains" of the fancier steering wheel described for a 100. I've yet to be able to read the data plate on the Kohler (it's been painted and scraped - not sure it's readable), but I suspect it may be a 10 HP. Too late tonight to check, but tomorrow for sure. Are there any visible differences between a 7 HP and a 10 HP?
