Default Cub Cadet 1862 not moving

I'm working on a 1862 for a friend. This is the first Hydrostatic I've ever worked on. Owner states was running and moving last year, then a belt broke. Once the new belt was installed, it would not move forward or backwards. Owner had hydro fluid and filter changed with no luck. I finally got the mower cranked yesterday, but the shaft with the fan blades is not turning. Can someone please guide me on what to check and how to fix?

Thanks

The belt has nothing to do with the movement of the tractor. The drive shaft connection at the motor must be bad. Nothing else would explain this.

First, welcome to OCC.........

The 1862 had three production runs. What is the Chassis Serial Number of the Tractor, so we know what version you are working on ??

Here is the Parts Breakdown for the Drive Line.

I would be looking at items 12-15 in the diagram.

The shaft was striped on the engine end of the shaft, its been fixed, all hydraulics work now and the mower moves.

The ignition switch is bad, so I'm replacing it and no battery, I've been jumping it to crank it.

question: will a standard riding lawn mower battery work on the 1862

IF....the Battery needs replacing, then replace it with a Lawn & Garden Tractor Battery (U1) in the neighborhood of 300-400 CCA.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
