Default Cub Cadet Model 123 rebuild

Hey guys, I posted a new video of my rebuild project. From here on out, I'll post my videos in this thread so you don't have to search forever for it if you're interested in watching them and you can just check this thread out. All I did this time was remove the gas tank, remove the muffler, and then I put the tank back on so I could run it without the muffler to see if I could still hear the knock...unfortunately I do, so it must be in the engine. I also have a little smoke, so I can't wait to open the engine up, hopefully I have to rebuild the engine :-) (I know it sounds like I'm kidding, but the whole reason I bought the tractor was to learn, so what better way to learn then rebuilding the engine?!) Also have a quick question. I lost a bid on ebay for the fuel sediment bowl, but I was thinking, is that what I really should get? Or should I just get the same type of shut off I have now and put an inline fuel filter on it?

I found these buy accident, somone left one laying on the counter at the cub dealer I bought four for all the ones I have with the knob broke off.
There listed in the stens catalog under lawn boy parts.

I bought a few new sediment bowls and IMO , they were junk. I guess they were made in China. The glass bowl was smaller than the casting , used different gaskets to try and seal it , but no luck.

I always buy the style of shut off you have now and run an inline filter. It should just unscrew out of the tank. Me personally , i do not use any thread sealer , haven't had one leak yet.

Iv'e got 2 questions cause I don't know?

On my #122 the bowl looks fine, no sediment but I don't like it. Because I would think that a in line filter would br BETTER?

1st., question?

Keeping the bowl intact would one be able to add a in-line-filter between the bowl & motor? Seems to me it would do a better job??????
Or maybe add to much pressure by over doing it?


2nd:

What's the difference between a # 122 & a # 123?
Just a years model or ?.

Great video, I should have been taking videos since I started to tear apart my # 109, but did'nt think about it? I took a ton of pic's to make it plain to me what goes where when I put it back together this Fall.

Nik:

(A) I would "think" that using an inline filter in conjunction with a sediment bowl would be no problem. But I would definitely do some experimenting on this to know for sure.

If using an inline filter, be sure you use one design for gravity fed systems. I eliminated the sediment bowl on one of my 104s. I flipped the tank around so the fuel line was on the right side, instead of the left. This allowed the fuel line to be longer giving me enough room to put in an inline filter and an inline shut off valve. I also don't have to worry about fuel leaking on the coil now.

The little pancake style in line filters for gravity systems are simply a screen and if you inspect them you'll notice that the screen is only about half as fine as the screen you already have on your shut off petcock.
the paper element filters for pressurized fuel systems quickly vaperlock at higher RPMs. I would worry more about treating your fuel for water problems and keeping your tank clean, than adding things that the tractor has ran fine without for fourty years.

I put one of those screen-type filters on the fuel line of my Speedex (Oops... can I say that here??). When I was putting it on, I spied thru the filter openings and saw that it was a simple mesh screen to catch the chunks.
