My local CC dealer John Labuda just called. The 3 gears ,crank, cam ,and duh???? are destroyed. Everything else ok. He priced cam and other gear. Crank gear not available. Should I search for another crank gear? Would I have same problem later? Midwest Cub I believe makes machined steel crank gear not sure if it is for a magnum. I'm new to the twins. Is this engine considered a magnum? Should I just replace with a newer engine? I need direction so as not to have another failure couple years down the road. Thanks Bob.

If you want to keep it, I would buy a new engine rather than spend the money on a repair.
Yes, you have a 20 HP Magnum.

Looks like you are in Latrobe. I'd give Rich Patton or Ray Weaver a call and see if they have any good Magnums or Command engines available. Also a good Command out of a 2000 or 3000 series would be a good option too.

I dont know Rich or Ray. Do you have their numbers? There is a guy that has a tractor junk yard on Rt 982 near where Rt crosses Pa Pike out in the' sticks'. I'm leaning towards the command engine as I like Kohler. I thought about Briggs. I had another tractor with a Briggs the exhaust seat fell out so I'm tainted. Thanks guys.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
