Default Creeper rebuild.

Noticed my creeper was leaking a bit of oil the other day, and along with the fact it doesn’t want to stay in low as mentioned in another thread, I figured it was rebuild time.

Discovered that my leak wasn’t from a bad oil seal, but the large retaining ring on the front was broken in two.

The gears all look good so I’m not sure if my yoke is the problem. I watched a video and they mentioned they had trouble with it not staying in high because of a groove wire into the yolk.

Also, is this bearing missing some of the balls in it? Looks like it’s missing around a quarter of them.

Ball bearings usually have a retainer that keeps the balls evenly spaced, looks like that one has escaped or it got left out?

Looks like that bearing has issues for sure. Since you have it apart,
new bearing, new oil seal, and new O rings. There are 3.
Not sure where to go with it not staying in gear. Is there any obvious
wear in planetary gears? Perhaps the pin that holds the lever for the
shifter, the inside one, was set wrong.

The gears, in my opinion, look fine. Ill post pictures when I get off work. As for the pin, are you referring to the roll pin that goes in the yoke? It looked a little wore, but thats all I can tell from it.

Been gone fishing for a couple days and just got back to see your
question. I am referring to the pin pictured in the middle of this
picture. If it is set to deep it will interfere with shifting internally.
It is pretty easy to see when you shift it off the tractor and watch how it works.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
