I'm running a 1981 782 with a KT-17 II on Champions and always follow the Kohler Owners Manual (dated 12/95) for plug type and gap. It calls for RV15YC or RV15YC4 with a gap of .025 on Page 10.
It was brought to my attention that there was a Cub Cadet Corporation Service Bulletin dated 9/27/1993 that states that the "NEW Air Gap to be used by all technicians effective immediately is now .045" when using Champion plugs. That's quite a size difference! What do the Kohler experts here recommend? I don't want any performance issues. Many thanks, ccguy

I don't have a copy of the service bulletin. I will ask my friend if he has it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
