The other day I was 2 hours from the house buying a golf cart off of a gentleman. In his barn was a tractor. It looked sort of like a round nosed farm all, but it was yellow-white, had Cub Cadet on the side and IH on the front in a grill just like the ones I see here. The thing is it is a larger tractor than my 1772. It had belonged to the mans father who had passed.
On the side was a planter. It had an old chain that ran off of the rear axle. This met another gear set which had another similar style/ sized chain running the planter. I wish I was closer or had brought a camera. If I get back that way I will go take a picture, the way the planter worked is worth a couple shots itself. |

That would be a later Cub, not a Cub Cadet

I'd say it is a lo-boy, too. A guy near me has one that is similar to the tractor that you have pictured.

Nope!! Not a Lowboy!! It's a standard Cub Tractor. Look closely!! The front spindles are too long and the rear hubs are not turned 90* = standard Cub...

Sounds like a later Farmall cub, IIRR the later ones were yellow/white.
Early ones were IH red of course. I don't remember them badged "cub cadet" more like "Farmall Cub" They were a small farm tractor, not really a smaller garden tractor like cadets. maybe look like these? |

Here is a good site that will tell all about Farmall Cubs......http://www.farmallcub.com/
BTW: I agree with Myron, that is a Standard Cub. Lo-Boys sit lower, hence the name,

Okay, so a trip to an arts and crafts festival took us back past the tractor. According to the side it is an International Cub. I took some pics, I hope they are the right size...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
