At the rear of the tractor you'll see a plate held with 7 bolts to the rear of the differential. There is a gasket between the plate and the casting. To drain, loosen the bolts (they are about 3/4"-1" long), then wedge the plate off and let the fluid drain into a large drain pan. The hydro/trans has 7 quarts of fluid when full. You can either make your own gasket out of gasket material (like from NAPA), or buy one through a parts source. As for fluid, Case/IH Hytran Ultra is what you'll find recommended here. Once the new gasket is on and the cover replaced and tightened, add fluid through the plug that is about 3" down from the top of the cover. A 3/8" ratchet will fit in it.
Here's a picture I took of my 123 when I had it apart this summer, and a .pdf file of a tracing I took of a new gasket. Can be used to cut one from gasket material:

Oh dang, I wish I had known earlier today you had a pdf of the gasket. I ordered a new one this morning for the 128 and that sucker was $18. Think I'll tell them to keep it. I have gasket material on the shelf waiting to be used. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the answer and the template, I really enjoy working on this old dog. It's built so much better than the Porsche that I restored last year !

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
