Default Price for a 149

I have a 149 spotted about 30 miles from my house. Asking price is $250 OBO. I does not have the rear lift on it, but it does have a belly mower. Owner traded for it, said it was running but he hadn't tried to start it.

Is anywhere from $150 to $250 a reasonable price. Tires are usable, but I would buy it with the idea of trying to sand blast it and repaint and completley rework it.

IMO, any of the 1x8/1x9 series cubs are great units. Strong and a wide frame to boot. Much easier to work on. The 149 is a beast and a favorite of a lot of people. Obviously I don't know what it looks like, but if it is complete and all there, that to me is a great price. That is one of the models I am looking for too. They are hard to come by around here. One thing you have to remember is, the price of an item can only be deemed too high or just right by the person that wants it. I always figure the ones I want to purchase are going to be about double that price around here. If less then I am really happy . Hope you get it. If so, we would love to see pictures of it... Keep us informed

From what I have seen, that looks pretty good. The one I have was not all there, runs but not great, needs some rear tires/rims, and gave almost that much. 149s are like hens teeth around here, not that many cubs of any size compaired to up north.

Dave R,

I'm pretty sure you will not like having a 149, you should probably just pass on it and email me the directions to where it is (do not post directions here... email them directly to me).

Dave,
I'm with DX3. The 149 is, obviously, one of my favorite Cubs, and are quite hard to find. I looked near and far to find mine. The price you mention is about as good as you can get, especially if everything is intact. It sounds like you're looking for a project Cub, and the 149 is a beast that is well worth it. Go for it! Hope to see some photos of it soon!

Hopefully I will attach a photo of the 149. Lets see if I can figure out how to do it.
I believe I may have attached a photo of the Cub.

Dave, from what I can see, it definitely looks like a great project Cub. Sure, it needs some new paint and TLC, but it'll be worth it. Looks like it's been outside for awhile too. Rescue that Cub, and then...."show me" your progress. (I see you're from Missouri....I crack me up) LoL

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
