Anyone see a problem with putting a 48" deck on a 1440? Looking at the parts lookup it calls for a 42" and a 44" deck on the 1440. Some of the 1641's and most of the 1861,1862,1863,1864's I have seen have the 48" deck on them. I'm not worried about the 14HP twin 1440 having enough power to push this deck but more so if it will be a direct switch over? As long as I use the correct undercarriage from the 48" deck I don't see anything else different unless I am missing something.
Anyone ever done this before? |

I think it'll fit just fine...the frames and stuff are all the same. You'd probably need the same belt as a 1641.
I'm not sure it'll have enough power, though. That deck pulls kind of hard. I had a 2206 (2000 series lawn tractor with the same 48" deck and a 20 hp Kohler Command V-twin) and even with 20 hp, it had a hard time with that deck in thick or tall grass. The newer V-twins don't have much torque. |

Thanks Matt.
That's what I was thinking too. I used to have a 1641 with the 48" deck and it seemed to have lots of power with the 16HP. It is for my dad's 1440 and he is retired and keeps up with the grass pretty good so I'm going to give it a try. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
