Default What will a Vanguard twin fit??

Hi guys.. My boss gave me all his old pony motors off the windtower trailer I escort across the country.. one 16 HP v twin , and a couple 21 hp v twins, all with horizontl shafts... If you had access to these what cub would you put one in? All are electric start, all just need basic tuning and cleaning to run fine. He decided to go with Honda motors as they seem to start better in the really cold weather than the Briggs did.

I am thinking of modifying one of my extra quietline cubs, going with solid motor mounting, just not sure about the hood fitting.....

Any thoughts? If it doesn't work out I can always use one of them for my gas powered air compressor, if I can figure out the air controls for it. Couldn't turn down FREE Horsepower!

Not real sure but probably any wide frame or quiet line they would fit in with a few mods. The side panels would be the problem area. Hood should be all right. My 1641 cub has a 16hp vanguard in it and it is a great motor. Came from the factory with it. Only problem with the Vanguard is the carbs are a little over complicated. I am sure you could stick one in any 82 series frame.

Truckntran, I had one in a 1000. I replaced the rubber mounts on the iso rails with solid steel. Like was stated earlier, the side planels won't fit anymore. The right frame rail, (as sitting on the tractor), will need trimmed for the starter. The left frame rail will need notched for the oil filter. I made a spacer that installed in between the block and the oil filter adapter to keep from severely notching the left frame rail. Midwest Super Cub sells the flywheel adapter for the clutch driver. I don't know about the fuel tank, as I made this a puller and mounted a small tank outside of the rails. Good luck if you decide to do the install.

I'm thinking I need to find someone with a blown motor in a SGT that wants to dump it.. really don't like the idea of notching a quietline frame...

Yeah they might go well on Ebay, but I have an air compressor that needs something to replace the 1960's Briggs single cylinder on it, and I sure would like to power a Cub Cadet with one of the remaining ones...
