Hi all I am new to this forum and really enjoy the set up. I have a 1650 and attached the tiller to the back of the tractor today. Fired up the till and everything was ok until I hit some solid soil and tiller had to work. Tiller started jumping a little and the belt on the gearbox to tiller popped off. I am using a 3/8" X 53" belt for tiller. manual calls for 13/32" X 53" belt but the 3/8 seems to sit fine on pulleys. I think the belt keeps popping off because the tiller pulley is a little crooked to the gearbox pulley. I thought maybe to loosen the tiller pulley and slide it over might do the trick. But it seems the pulley or whole tiller is crooked to the gearbox. I have included a pic to show how crooked the pulley is. any ideas on straightening tiller to gear box. I am using multi hole hitch pins to mount the lower half of unit to gearbox. Could those pins be to small allowing play. Thanks all and look forward to posting here a lot.

YUP....you have a belt alignment problem. If you place a straight edge on the outer surfaces of each pulley, they should line up.
If this can't be corrected by pulley adjustments, then it would be a mounting problem.

Just wondering if the Model 1A will work on the 1650 which I am trying to mount it to. I also have a Model 2 which is seized. Could that be the problem is that I am putting a model 1A on a 1650 and it should have the Model 2. Could that cause the belt to be offset. Thanks

Tiller models 1, 1A, & 2 will work and fit a 1650 just fine.
How about a picture(s) of the way this tiller is attached to the tractor. ![]()

Here you go Roland. the lower right clevis pin has no cotter pin in it thats why it looks to be flopping around. Took lower bracket off today and all seems straight. Tightened a few nuts also. I am using the lower holes of the of the 2 that are on each side. This really has me stumped.

Here's the problem: You need the lower 3-point bracket in addition to the tiller gearbox bracket so the pins where the lower links attach are in double shear. Right now they're in single-shear, and I can clearly see that they are not going straight through the holes. Get a lower 3-point bracket and bolts that are 1/4" longer and everything will fit correctly.

Bill that is awesome. I think I figured it out thanks to you guys. I am missing the lower bracket like Matt said and pins are not keeping tiller straight. Now I just have to find a bracket and I will be all set. I need the wide frame 3 point lower bracket correct?. Thanks again.

All of the standard OEM lower brackets are the same, regardless of whether they came from an O, NF, WF, 82 series, etc.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
