Default Clutch Disassembly/Assembly Tool

Hello everyone! Looking to make a gear drive main clutch disassembly/assembly tool so I can do just that... take apart my main drive clutch on the 100. How much travel or movement does the tool need in order to work properly & allow the springs to fully relax? Looking to make the tool work on all gear drive Cubs, so whatever is the largest amount of travel I need is the dimension I'm looking for. Thanks fellas.

Mike, MattG has a tool already designed to do the job. If you go to his web site and go to the tools section of his site all the details are there.

I have noticed a neat trick in a lot of posts also: put the drive shaft in a vise oriented so that the pin will fit between jaws. apply a tad of tension on the vise to hold lightly. tap the shaft down so spring is compressed while vise is holding shaft . Tighten vise when spring tension is off pin, and drive pin out. then release vise slowly to relax spring. Can be installed same way.

Default Simple clutch drive spring compressor

"clutch drive spring compressor"

I posted a "simple clutch spring compressor" tool, Nov. 27, 2010. It utilized the jack from my 1997 Nissan pick up truck and 2 eye bolts. I can't seem to get the pix to come over. You can probably use the trailer ball hole or a vise to substitute the bracket that I have on the back of my "cub". This worked for me. Good luck.

Bill

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
