Thanks for the idea. I'll look to see if it has it. I also took the intake off and it's clear and the gaskets were good. I bought some different plugs for it too. Only this time i bought what it's suppose to have. Before i just got what the guy that owns it put in it. and the right ones look to be a hotter plug and it seals with a taper on the plug and the guy had ones that use a gasket. I didn't try to start it yet but hopefully it'll either be the spark plugs or the spark advance thing (if it has one). thanks again for the idea. I'll let you know how it goes.

Unless someone changed the engine, there is no spark advance.
I also agree there could be an obstruction in the intake manifold; if gas is not getting to the cylinders, that is definitely not an ignition problem. If you have spark, that isn't the problem, since the timing cannot be adjusted on these engines. |

I had the intake off today and it was perfectly clean. The gaskets looked good yet but i put new ones on anyway. We also bought what the dealer told us were the plugs that it came with when new. I tried to start it and it did start. but usually if it does start, the next morning is when it has problems so tomorrow morning i'll see how it acts. If the problem the whole time was the wrong plugs i'm really going to feel dumb, but there were alot of problems with it i found and when it does run it runs so much better than when it first got here. I'll post back sometime tomorrow with the results, but i guess if it does start it's not a guarantee that it's permanently fixed

It's still running and the guy that owns it stoped by today and said except for when it was new it's never started so good. So it seems like the plugs, were at least the main problem with it. It did have other problems that i fixed. I useally see the guy on the weekends so if it acts up again i'll know about it. So thanks again for the help.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
