OK, time to finish this off.
Since I had the radiator and block drained of coolant I ordered up a couple of new radiator hoses. I wanted to make sure that I did my best to avoid having an air lock in the block so I pulled the thermostat before refilling the system. I made a new gasket, tested the thermostat for proper operation and refilled the system. |

I picked up a new D4LT - VHD battery from Interstate. Made up new 1/0 fine strand, pre tinned battery cables and installed the rebuilt Lucas starter.

Priming the fuel system was effortless. The ol’ Boy fired right up and the straight pipe and flapper sounded so nice. Oil pressure ran right up to 60 and settled down to 50 at idle when warm and volts was a steady 12. I set the low idle at 800 rpm as a starting point and headed out for a run around.
When I got back the temp was up to 150 F. and I noticed a small leak from the radiator cap and a little coolant dripping from the overflow tube so I put that on my list for the next parts run. When I removed the cap I noticed that the top of the filler neck was a little bent so I straightened that out and installed the new cap. I turned the idle down to 700 and I'm gonna watch that temp and prolly try a higher temp thermostat. |

I’ve mowed three or four times with it over the past week and it really is a pleasure to operate. The size is perfect for the Woods mower that I picked up last year.
What makes a Ford 4000 Special Utility unique is that it has the engine, transmission and rear end from a 4000 and the steering, front end and (now I know) gas tank from a Ford 3000. This combination makes for a nimble tractor with gobs of power! Thanks for following along! ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
