Default K161 k181
is the connecting rod the same for the K161 and the K181? i read they are the same bore and a different stroke length.my k161 has the small bore 2-7/8, i want to bore it out to k161 .010 or k181 std but i dont think i can use the k181 rod. i am reading alot of forums with this same topic but have not read a definate solution. any sugestions,

Just a thought,
you could go to parts tree or another parts look up, and see if the part ##'s are the same.

i am working with a 1961 Cub Cadet Original with a Kohler K161 (small bore)
the k161 had a small bore (2.875) (prior to a certain spec# which mine falls under) and a large bore(2.938) mine is the small bore and is egg shaped, so a rebore is neccasary, i was told you cant get the K161 small bore piston /rings/.010 over /rod .010 under anymore so you have to bore to a k181 std.which is 2.938. i do have a good source for parts,i am going to do all valves, deck,head, etc. on brian miller garden tractor tips site, he stated that a k141 will need to be bored to a 2.938 because the oversize piston and rings are not available, so i would think a k161 is do-able on the boring to a 2.938. is that correct?

yes i have read that spec information . but what some are not getting, or i may not be asking the right question or describing it the right way, i will try again,
if you have a k161 early model with a small bore 2.875 std, (keep in mind no
.010 .020 .030 pistons are available anymore), you will need to re-bore to the NEW k161 bore size of 2.938. the real question is , is the cylinder wall on the early k161 with the 2.875 bore thickness to handle the re-bore of 2.938?
any takers?

the spec does not reference anything about the bore size of 2.875

OKAY...you are saying the Service Manual is not correct. SO..........What is the Kohler Spec Number of the engine you are referencing....???
